EDUSTUDY ONLINE STUDY
ONLINE LEARNING EXPLAINED
Advances in satellite, cellular and Internet technology especially is revolutionizing the way and speed with which knowledge is transferred and provides a cost-effective alternative to the traditional “contact-based” methodology associated with residential or campus-based universities - a trend implemented by universities and award institutions all over the world. Online Learning is delivered via a computer and web browser (Internet Explorer, FireFox, MS-Edge etc) that is accessed via cellular, satellite, optic-fibre connection or traditional telephone connections. Online Learning is also referred to as “eLearning, mlearning, computer based training and distance education”. Online training programs involve creating learning content in the form of presentations, interactive content, audio/video and the “virtual classroom” concept which allow the student or learner to access academic material, tutoring as well as online assessments. The term “Blended-Learning” implies that all the available technologies and pedagogic methods are combined with contact-sessions, if required, in a “all-inclusive” teaching approach. The EduStudy Study Platform (EOSP) provides the student with the options of Blended-Learning, Online-Learning, Distance Education or Training Seminars. Research published by the United State Department of Education in 2009 indicated that online students performed better than those who attended class-room sessions.
EDUSTUDY ONLINE STUDY PLATFORM (EOSP)
The EduStudy Online Study Platform (EOSP) is a web-based application through which academic content is delivered and managed. The EOPS is tied to both on-line and off-line training, learner administration, performance management and academic record-keeping as well as the development of course catalogues, launching of courses, registering learners, learner progress as well as the assessments. Students have access to a study forum, is linked to a study group and have support from a course lecturer/tutor via a call centre facility. Students are also linked with international support groups which enables them to establish a global network of contacts and strategic associations. Advantages includes dedicated and continuous faculty support throughout the program. A modular based curriculum is followed that primarily focuses on the development of the student’s core level of competency pertaining to the subject matter. Students are required to participate in forum discussions. In terms of assessment the EOSP makes provision for the uploading of assignments and projects and allows for ongoing online course evaluation in a number of formats including multiple choice questions, true-or-false, descriptive formats, assignments etc. Students are assisted by an online/blended-learning assessment mechanism and receive continuous feedback via the EOSP.
